You Don't Have to Travel to Egypt Anymore — Edmonton Has the Sheikh

Edmonton skyline

For years, dedicated Muslim families in North America faced an impossible choice: settle for a basic local program, or fly their children halfway around the world to study under a scholar of true calibre in Egypt or Saudi Arabia.

The Old Reality

Families who were serious about their children achieving Ijazah-level Quran mastery often had no local option. They would send children abroad for years at a time, bearing enormous financial and emotional costs, in order to access scholars with authentic, verified Sanad — unbroken chains of transmission connecting back to the Prophet ﷺ.

This was the standard. And for most communities in Western Canada, it remained the only path. Until now.

Edmonton Is Different Now

Sheikh Mohamed Moamen — a former student of the globally renowned Dr. Ahmad Essa El Masarawi, himself the Grand Sheikh of Reciters in Egypt (2004–2014) — now calls Edmonton home. At 5525 Gateway Blvd, he has established Tarteel Quran Institute to bring that exact level of scholarly rigor to Alberta.

Students no longer need to cross oceans. The expertise, the Sanad, and the structured academic program are right here. This is a rare and historic opportunity for the Edmonton Muslim community, and one that families serious about their children's Quranic future should not overlook.
